It would work, but it's going to be narrower than his rear. You also want to make sure that it IS from a fj60 and not something earlier. Does it have disc brakes? I'm not sure about spring pad width, but it's not going to matter much since you're going to have to fab mounts anyway. Unless you buy a spring hanger kit, then you might have to move the perches. But that would also give you the opportunity to cut and turn the axle too.
It's also going to be heavier and have a little less clearance, but not really huge concerns. The other down fall is that if he carriers spare parts, the front and rear diffs will not be interchangable.

FJ60 axles are 58" WMS which is the same as the IFS rear. It uses the same birfs as the mini axle but has longer inner shafts and has a low pinion 9.5" ring gear. The price you are can get one for is GREAT, they have been going for 200+ over here in the SE.

My buddy is putting a FJ62 front under a 97 Tacoma for a SAS.

I'd be that friend.

FJ60/62 front axles are 58.5 WMS to WMS. If you can find one that isn't as rusty as the one I have it's an awesome axle.

Cruisers use a wider leaf spring so the spring perches will not work with mini leaf springs. You'll need to replace the spring perches no matter what, plus the 60/62 axles are SUA.
