V6 Gears in a 4 Cyl. 3rd Member?
« on: Feb 16, 2005, 10:23:08 AM »
Hi, I was just wondering how you can put the gears (ring and Pinion) of a V6 3rd member into a 4 cyl. 3rd member?

Do you need to change the 2 pinion bearings and races? I already have the ring on. :headscratch:

Ok, the links helped a little... I just called a parts store and asked them and they told me that the bearing from 79-88 or something is the same and from 88-94 there was a different bearing.
The lady gave me all the dimensions of the bearing and I have the smaller one I think.

Here are the specs I found.

From 79-88

ID - 1.378
OD - 3.15
Width - 1.1635

Newer with 3.0 L engine.

ID - 1.378
OD - 3.503
Width - 1.5055

The one with the 3.0 L is larger, not smaller. Does this sound correct? I looked that the two pinions together and they are the same length all together, except the sleeve spot for the inner pinion bearing is longer.
