1985 Fuel tank sending unit....Price
« on: Feb 07, 2005, 08:02:36 PM »
:headscratch: Ok, I did it again. After dropping a cleaner 88 4runner body on the 85 chassis.I attempted to hook up the fuel tank sending unit. With out consulting the wiring diagram, I hooked up two wires from the harness that ran to the fuel tank sending unit..I pluged in the the fuel pump power wire, to the fuel gauge sending unit... :smack:

Using a fluke 87 I shot the sending unit wires {two} looking for continuity, checking the for an open circuit...Zero, notta. It's open.

It is a case ground. Meaning the tank bolted to the chassis is in itself a gnd. That checks ok.Conitinuity is present.

Q...How much is a new sending unit.?

Around here I can only imagine. $100 bucks would be low balling it.

Ya know I have a three wire plug also. I thought that went to the fuel pump.! I will check with my friend first. He has a few junkers.

Why three wires when the wire diagram shows two.?

Sorry it took so long, here are pics of the sensor and the plug.  I am 90% sure the third wire is an on/off switch for a fuel warning light, and will test if you are interested.
