Topic: 1980 electrical issue...tail lights/dash lights.

So my buddy has a 1980 and the tail lights and dash lights quit working. Is there any related wiring between the two? I would think not. I have checked the ground from the block to the firewall and every other one I could find. All the bulbs are good. I put a multimeter on the two fuses and I am not getting any power to them. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Sounds to me like the light switch on the column went bad.  Mine went bad bout a yr ago.  I just swapped out the whole unit for another one.
Isnt that hard to do.

When yours went out did the headlights still come on? I think I have an extra one lying around I will see if I can find it. Thanks for the help!!

Just out of curiosity your front blinker lights still in? Had a similar problem and that was the case for my 1st gen

My front lights would work then not work.  It was an odd issue but as I said swapping it out fixed all the issues.

Don't tail lights go out when the dash lights go out?

Lost all mine on my 92, dash fuse was fried, swapped it out and bam. dash lights and tail lights were fine.
