(3rz) changing balance shaft bearings???
« on: Mar 28, 2014, 04:43:39 PM »
If I ever find the 3rz im looking for id like to replace the balance shaft bearings as general maintenance if its not to much trouble, before it goes in my truck. I was looking at a crapy taco manual and it looks like the front bearings can be changed through the front of the motor by removing the water pump, timing cover ect. is that correct? Now, im assuming the balance shafts must have rear bearings? how do you get to those? can someone clear this up for me ? does changing these bearings pretty much require  a lower end rebuild or no?

The fronts can be pushed into the block and fall thru. Timing cover and oil pan need to be removed. The rear bearings are way back there. Not sure what you can do with those. I didn't really look that hard at them when I did the balance shaft delete.

It's kind of tough to get to the rear bearings without having the engine apart.  I deleted mine as well because a rear bearing was spun out and one of the balance shafts was damaged.
