if you are talking about a solid axle swap, then you SHOULD do high steer. you don't have too, but it would be in your best interest to do it, also, using the stock push pull steering system mean that you would have to use the sideways mounted stock box, not the best design

If you do a solid axle swap you have to use hi steer.  Since a stock solid axle steering is push pull which is completely diff steering box.

just go with the hi steer.  If you convert back to the factory push pull stering you will not have steering when flexed it also helps to eliminate or reduce bump steer on the road

Well see I'm doin a sas on a budget because my 81 soild axle is Def not somethin to drive back and forth to school, my 87 is but the front end it completey shot.. so I was just goin to put the 81 axles under the 87 and I've got $500 to do it.. I'm not buying a kit because I already have springs and can make shock hoops.. but if I had the extra $500 I would.. is there Amy way to do high steer cheap? Or do normal steering with the ifs box? It's all getting really confusing

Could just do crossover steering, and use a steering stabilizer
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

id keep the 87 rear axel under it as its 3 inches wider then either run 1.5 spacers on the front or do the ifs hub mod to bring it to the same width.

as for steering there is no way to do the factory push pull with an ifs box and still have the peace of mind to drive it on the road IMO. i have seen some pretty good low steer setups where the axel retains the factory tierod.  But the passanger arm is raised and a drag link is connected to it.

With that said.  There is always used hi steer kits for sale either here or pirate.  i actually just picked up mine for 275 shipped.  Its a full marlin with the billet arms  i did also get my extended braided steel break lines with the or it would have been only 250.  So there not that expensive to get used then upgrade later.

Do some research on here of builds and check out their steering.  Check the for sale section daily till you find a good deal on a steering set up.  IMO since you are building most of your own parts it should be fairly easy to stay with in your 500$ budget.

Hope this helpes you

You can use crossover, without the "hysteer" and use the ifs steering.
