here is my problem:

 The engine turns on and then it idols and cuts out. But if i try it agian, i turn it on, put it in gear and try to drive off, but it cuts off again. It hesitated  like bogging and dies out, i'm not sure what the problem is?

will getting on too the problem, when i start the car it idls and sounds ok, but for just a short time like 2-5 seconds, then it feels like the car is not getting any gas and it dies out..u would figure if you give it a little more gas it would reve up, but it just studers  and ends up dieing, could it be the distributor

I took the black housing thing off the carburator, i found that the carb is not responding to the throttle, when u push on the throttle nothing happens. no gas or movement in the barrels so i think i might have a bad carb. thanks you for assists, and comments. when i find out the problem i will give more info

try rebuilding your carb, it almost sounds like it is flooding.  But, if you have no movement in the carb... who knows.  Does the truck smell like it is running rich for the little bit that it is running?

what if you put some gas in the barrells?  does it run at all then?  just don't burn yourself

Its either your ECU which controls the automatic choke or your carb is stuck with the choke open/closed. i had a similar problem

You can't say "it's either a or b" in this situation.  Too many variables, too many possibilities.  Really sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

when you push the throttle u\your suppose to see the choke barrel move, but there is no play. nothing moves and u would hear the mechanical fuel pump, pump fuel into the carb. but there is no fuel too. when you press the gas pedal you would normaly feel a little pressure, but now the gas pedal feels like it has no pressure or tension.

i looked around the carb and i was messing around with it and i came across that thing on the throttle



that silver lever, the red arrow is pointing too, if i put a screw driver on the bottom to lift ip up it keeps the car running, the higher i lift the more it revs up. but if i remove it the engines stall and dies, so is there a way that i can adjust to keep it up. Or any body knows what is happening?

The little screw right next to your arrow is your idle speed screw    Have you checked to see if your throttle cable is even hooked up?

i thought the motor was a 84, but it was a 82. The carb is bad, needs rebuilt or a replacement. If anybody from the fresno area knows a shop that rebuilds carbs lmk. or have a good running one for sale lmk. thank you

Rebuild it yourself, its easy. Only thing that a lil hard is rembering all the parts, but if u worried just take pics. Ive taken one apart, dont know what everything was, I just cleaned it all up real good, and put it back together how the book showed. Worked perfect after that. The kit was like 18 bucks from napa. I charge my buddies 40 bucks to do there carb, im sure a shop is gonna charge u around 250-300. I called a shop way back in the day for a quote on one, 500 bucks, thats why i just learned to rebuild mine.

yeah, narrowed down that i had a bad carb! i bought a rebuilt one from a shop, instal it and now it runs great! Thanks for all the support
