how to ID a transmission

I have a 85 truck with a 5spd manual and I was wanting to know how do I ID what trans. it is.  I dont how to tell if it is W or a R.  Any and all help will be great.  Thanks.

Fastest way if your truck has never been messed with is on the fire wall it will say something like "w46a" or something. Or your motor if its a 22re it will be a w series, if its a 22r its probably a g.

Thanks guys. It looks like it a G52 or a G54.  What is the difference between the two?
