WEBER
« on: Jul 20, 2010, 08:47:42 PM »
thank i about got my weber going.the problem i got is that the idle goes up to 1000to1200 . i can stomp the pedal to the floor and it well go down to 750 rpm. but after i get driving it still goes up to 1000 rpm  when i go back to idle. even when its at running temp. think that the choke needs to be adjusted. so what is the best way to do this?

I assume you mean 32/36, or 34/34, and ditto on googling weber adjustment.  I found it much easier to sift through the links than grabbing the scattered info in the 38 weber threads here, but there should be a good writeup on weber setup in my first gen build thread.

ok im set the idle screw at 2 3/8 turns out it seems to be running good but still wants to idle at 1000 until i stomp the throttle and then idles at 750-800 rpm. when i turn the screw at 2 1/4 turns out it well jump from 500 to 1000 rpm up and down.

Idle or mixture?  Don't bother counting turns on the idle screw, it's just there to help you set the rpm.  The one you want to count is the mixture.

I had a 32/36 on mine before i swapped it to efi.  never had any problems with it, except for your normal flooding out on steep inclines.  i wouldn't junk it just yet, especially if your just going to stick another carb on it. take a break from and come back to it when your nerves aren't rattled from it :maddest:.
hey glenn, didn't your neighbor get buy my 32/36?

i had this same problem, what i think is the choke has eather 8 volts or the choke coil inside is worn, if you loosen the housing and tighten the choke spring a little it should come back to where ever you want it

however your choke may not work when cold ,but now you will no whot your problem is

i like the red line cable choke

hope this helps

Webers are a great carb if you take the time to learn how to tune them and then play with it until you get it right. Once it is perfect you shouldn't need to adjust anything until you make big changes in altitude, like set for sea level and then heading for 3500ft.

You also need to control the fuel in the fuel bowl, the air idle jets are open to the fuel bowl and if you get it sloshing around, the fuel splashes up over the air-idle jets and the carb chokes out. That's why if you run the fuel bowl in front, the truck dies going up steep stuff and chokes out going downhill if you turn the carb around.
Design it, Fab it, Wheel it.

You know why it's called a KILT? That's what happened to the last guy who called it a skirt....

you know, I guess I'm luck or good at tuning but my 32/36 runs on inclines fine up to about 45* then its fine as long as i keep it about 1/2 throttle or more unless its stair steps then the fuel bounces out

I once ran and I still own a Weber 32/36 and the little carb did fine. I did not have to change the float adjustment just set the mixture screw and choke and all was good. Ran great the first day and the day I parked the truck for rebuild.
A real man builds it... Then his wife points out all that he did wrong.
