Freeze Plugs
« on: Dec 25, 2004, 10:39:04 AM »
Simple question here, I think. I am changing the freeze plugs in my 4.3L chevy engine. My father told me if I put them in ice, they will freeze, and make them just a tad bit smaller. Making it easier to install. I was wondering, should I use some silicone also on these, or just put them on dry. As everybody with a 4.3 out there knows, these freeze plugs are very hard to change when the engine is in the truck.

Thanks

U mean like RTV? Not silicone grease do ya? Never heard of that. I'd think dry, if anything - then some anti-sieze compound. What do other guys do?

Freezing the plugs would help if you could install them quick enought.

I lube the bore with High Tack [made by Permatech] and send them home using a deep socket.

If the motor is used, the debri in the bottom of the water jacket will seal up any minor leaks.
