No more MTR's..... How about Pit Bull Rocker Radials?
« on: Jan 30, 2010, 10:03:31 PM »
Yes I know, many of us mourn the loss of the old school MTR's.  I'm looking for tires that will last ( it's a semi DD) like my old MTR's did and I'm not seeing to much I like.  I love the look of the PB Rockers and have heard awesome things about them but nada, zip, zero about the RADIAL version in 37 12.5 15?  Anyone have these or heard anything about how long they will last on the street?  Thank you for your time!

I loved my bias Rockers, and eventually I'll have a set of Radial Rockers.

They rode great on the highway for a bias tire, and they wore like iron.

The only complaint I had with them was the noise. They were LOUD on the highway. Louder than what you'd expect from an aggressive off road tire.

The radials will last for awhile on the highway....I wouldnt worry about it. Compare them to a Swamper SSR or Krawler KX (blue). The bias ply Rockers even lasted and wore very well on the highway for me.

Bias or radials?

The bias - yes, they measure short.

The radials - 36.5" is pretty accurate

Yup, my brother went from running 36" bias Iroks (which measure out at least 36" tall) to the 37" bias Rockers.  They barely measure out 35" on the same wheels.  He's not real happy them them.  You have to run really low pressure in them to make them work as well as in Irok (here in Colorado anyways).  They do wear better than the Iroks on the street.

If you want a true 37" bias Pitbull tire, look into the 39.5" Rockers.

The discussion here is about radial Pitbull Rockers...now does anyone have any true dimensions or personal experience with these RADIAL tires?

We are all aware the bias ply run extremely SHORT compared to their advertised size.

actually  it looks like the radials might run pretty true to size unlike the bias version.   it also looks like they dont crown as bad as the bias.  the 37" radials are going to be my next tires for sure.

The replacement for BFG MTs are the almost exactly the same Firestone Destination MT.  Honest - they work just as well as the originals.  And just as lousy in the rain.  Lol.

This is the best all-around tire for the money*.  It works exactly as well as the BFG MTs but it also is great in actual mud, snow, and rain.

* There is a better option, but it's only a little bit better and costs a HELL of a lot more money:

Great on-road, but pricey.  Very pricey.

95% of sane people just get the Firestone MTs for cheap at Sears when they are on sale and call it a day.  The only problem is that 33 is as large as they go.  (Mickey Thompson is 35, IIRC, though both are tall for their size)

Why did good year quite making MTR's? I wonder if enough people asked them to start making the old tires again if they would.

Ive been running the 37 12.50/15 Rocker radials and all I have to say is I love these tires. They work great for the conditions we have around here. Sand, mud, rocks, muddy rocks, muddy roots, powder snow and wet mushy compact snow. Ive been running them on the street for about 4 months and they are wearing very well, even with my spool in the back and for such an aggressive tire they are fairly quiet, Still loud but ive heard worse on lesser tires. I got them for about $360 CND a tire (The cheapest I could find). From what I have heard the company that produces the radial version has gone out of business so production of the radials has been stopped for a bit. But that was 4 months ago so things could have changed.

I know of several PNW boys that really like theirs.  :beerchug: They are a bit wide for my taste but seem to get the job done!
