high pinion carrier
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 11:51:02 PM »
i'm not really sure if this is a noob question but i'm gonna ask it here anyway. as far as i have found, a high pinion diff is based off of the v6 diff. therefore, it uses v6 bearings and carrier, correct? i'm thinking i'm wrong though. i just recently purchased a used high pinion diff (non-elocker) and it looks to have a carrier based off the 4cyl diff with only one pinion shaft rather than the cross shaft and extra spider gears that the v6 carriers have. i checked the measurement for the carrier bearings and they are 50mm which is the size for the v6 bearings. is this normal? i guess i'm just a little confused.

Here's a picture if that helps at all.

Looks just like a 4cyl carrier but allows v6 bearings. I'm gonna be ordering a ring and pinion and master install kit next week and I'll be getting the ones specifically for high pinion. I don't see how it wouldn't work even though I'm still a little confused about the different carriers. Let me know if there's anything I need to be concerned about. Thanks.
