rim screws

Has anyone used the rim screw idea that has poped up in some magazines lately (as opposed to $$ for beadlock wheels)?  :dunno:

From anything I have heard, rim screws are about as effective as rim cement. (glue on the bead to "hold" it on) I haven't used them personally but most say you get what you pay for and with rim screws, you get torn up tire beads.

The mag had a how to do this.  They used moroso (sp) drag slick screws and drilled holes in the rim and ran them into the bead of the tire.  The screws are 1/4 x 3/4 long stainless grade 8 if I recall.  I checked summit racing and they are about 12.00 for 16? screws.  I think the mag did double that (per wheel) for their setup.  It looks like it would work but I was concerned about tearing up the bead like mentioned above and balancing the wheel after the fact (getting a tire shop to do it).  Santa found the mag at walmart it should still be on the shelf.
