4.0-1 Gears
« on: Apr 06, 2010, 11:23:31 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone makes 4.0-1 gears for a Toyota case. I know Advance Adaptors used to make them but I can only find 4.70-1 gears on there website but All-Pro say's they sell 4.0-1 from Advance Adaptors. So does anyone knows who still makes 4.0-1 gears. I would like to run them in a single case I think it would be a good setup for the kind of wheeling I do. Does anyone run this set up? Pros Cons?

4 to 1 vs 4.7 to 1 isn't much difference.  Just run the 4.7's.

agreed. With a v-6 tranny, and 5.29s and a 4.7 case you end up at ~100:1 with one case. Add a 2.28 doubler and you get 50:1, 100:1 and 200:1

is 4.7 too low when just cruising on trails with a single case?

I am usually have my 4.7:1 case in for just cruising on the trail. Remember you have 5 (or maybe 4) gears you can pick from.  The only time I use my 2.28:1 case is when they are both locked in, or in the mud/sand/dunes.  I am going to do a 4.7:1 case in my DD/camping rig 4runner, it just makes wheeling WAY nicer.
