« on: Apr 18, 2010, 09:31:42 AM »
hey all-

the e-brake light was comin on last week so i searched and found out that meant brake fluid was low. i didnt think much of it and filled it up. the light went off. now, the master cylinder was back to its spot below min. so i just filled it up again. any idea what this could be? :dunno:
thanks in advance.

From the sounds of it, you have a leak in one of your brake lines. Check the lines above the fuel tank, that is usually the spot that rots out. It is very common on yotas for this to happen. I just replaced both lines for the same reason on my 4runner.

Ya look for a leak. if you cant spot one right away, fill the res and use a rod or stick to push the pedal down and then go look for a leak. Not in your case but sometimes when the light comes on it means you need new brake pads because the pistons of the caliber now are sticking out a lot do to the pads being worn down. So if you full the res and then put new pads on it over flows the res. Cuz you push the pistons back into the caliper.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

just trace all the lines out and check your calipers and brake cylinders for leaks.

wheel cylinders in the rear drums. very easy to replace and are usually the first things to start leaking.

I would go with new caliper.  You can get a rebuild kit I believe, but I've had bad luck with rebuilding myself.  The new one is less work for a little extra money and I believe you will get the core back on the old one.

Flush the system out good to get any crap out that might tear up those o-rings and boots.
