knock Sensor Wire Harness
« on: Dec 11, 2009, 02:31:07 PM »
Have any of you guys made your own knock sensor wireharness for your 3.0's? Or does anyone know what the second wire is connected to that does not go "plug to plug" I just wanted to be cautious before I pulled it apart.

Yeah, the short one that goes from the sensor to about where the injectors are.

Mine is a 94. when I say "made" i mean replace the wire(s) because they get brittle. people hear say replace them if you tear down the top end cause your there, but they are $150 OEM or after market.  the only goofy thing is two wires come off the high side and only one is connected and the sensor. It appears the second wire is wrapped up "looks factory". hear I'll post a pic or 2. I was just trying figure out what was inside before i just tear into it.

that's funny man i was just in there.  again for the third time and still never noticed that there where 2 wires and then 1 wire.   i had to replace mine but i did it with a old moter that i had sitting around.
i would just cut in to it carefuly and then see what's in there.  and go from there.

The 2nd wire is stripped and laying bare under the blue shrink tubing. Anyone know why it is this way?  :dunno:

did you have a code coming up or, why were you even in there??   if you had no code coming up then just rewrap it and leave well enough alone.   don;t fix it if it isn't broke.

No code just several people have said to replace it. Mine seems stiff and brittle so I thought i would look into replacing the wire. Once I pulled it apart the brown wire broke and is corroded. It doesn't make sence why they wrapped it around the other wire. any ideas?  :help:

Well, thanks for your time anyways. Now that it is broke I will redo it and see what happens.

Well, I replaced the wire from connector to connector. I made it as close to original as possible and used shrink tubing to cover it. Put a few miles on it and so far so good. beats paying the $150.
