4Runner tops swap?
« on: Dec 07, 2009, 03:07:13 PM »
Anyone have a white or black 4Runner top that they want to swap for a red top?

I just have the wrong color top on a 4Runner.  Red top on a white 4Runner.  I saw a red 4Runner with a white top driving down I-5 and thought "we need to swap!"  Alas he was driving the wrong direction and I was in the wrong truck...

Bay Area/Sacramento or Chico/Oroville.  Depends on the day of the week.

Yeah, I'm interested if it's in decent shape.  Sliding windows work properly, weather stripping, etc.

Painting is an option, I just have never got around to it.  Does anyone know how hard it is to paint the fiberglass tops?  I'm guessing it will absorb a lot of the paint making things harder.  I just thought for now I could spend 20 minutes swapping with someone in a parking lot.

i used flat black and painted my red top black....you are going to use a lot of paint and are going to have to do it in stages depending on how bad of shape the fiberglass is...i think i painted mine 3 or 4 times a couple years ago and it could use another coat but now its all bashed up so theres no more painting for me on this top  :gap:

if you do paint it use acetone (paint thinner) to clean all oils and dirt that can be on the top bc other wise the paint will not stick alot of the time....Use to paint jeep hard tops and fenders had to do this everytime otherwise the paint pealed or bubled
