5.29's and an ARB locker
« on: Aug 02, 2009, 04:49:45 PM »
i just installed my 5.29 gears with an ARB air locker and i don't have enough clearance between my pinion and my carrier. ARB says to grind down the end of the pinion. has anyone had to do this ?

Is the pattern correct and how bad does it hit? Sounds like the pinnion is too deep. Who makes the gears? Also are you sure you don't have V6 gears in a 4 cyl housing?

that pattern is good. and the pinion does not hit the carrier. the ARB book says that i need .020" of clearance
and i only have .015". this is going in the front which is 4cyl and i also have gears for the back which is 6cyl.
but the boxes that the R&P come in dont specify 4cyl or v6.the only thing that does is the setup kits that i have for them. the gears are made by sierra. i compared that gears from both boxes and they look to be exactly the same.

Well, the key here is that the pattern is good. That's the most important part. You are talking about 5 thousands of an inch. That's not a lot, but you have to take in account for heat expansion and you don't want to have them rub and make shavings. If you must, do like ARB says and grind a little off the face of the pinnion. It's not going to hurt so long as you don't leave a sharp edge or get it too hot.
