22re alternator into 22r motor
« on: Aug 12, 2007, 02:13:52 PM »
I have a 1984 truck with 22r and I want to put a 1985 22re alternator because they have anywhere from 60amps to 70amps. The pictures do not match but maybe I can use the mounting brackets from the 22re motor. Also I was looking and mean green but they are listed for 85 and up. Any ideas would help thanks!

Since the two don't match, I can assume you have the early 84 engine?  That would explain why it's all different.

Any easy way to pump up an 82 22r alternator?

Take it to a reputable auto electric shop and have it re-wound

You go to the wrecking yard, buy an alternator bracket from a 22re and bolt it onto your 22r block.  then you have to swap out the plug on the harness.  Its easy.

I'm doing this in the next two weeks.

Broadway Auto Electric in So Cal. offers a Double wound Stator for a 22re alternator, approximately 90 to 100 amps.

$150 for the kit
$200 for the built unit.
