tranny swap: these the right bolts?
« on: Oct 16, 2004, 08:00:33 PM »
i'm swapping an L52 tranny into my '79 pickup that was originally equipped with an L43.  marlin says the bottom 2 bellhousing bolts are longer, so i ordered them from the parts counter.  however, the diagram the toyota parts guy showed me didn't resemble any kind of L series tranny, but there were 2 lower bolts so he set me up.  the part number of these is 90119-10246.  i'm attaching pic of one of the bolts, looks like a M10x1.25 or something similar, with a 14mm head.

is this the bolt i need?  or is it something little that i'm gonna get hung up on in the middle of my engine/tranny swap?

If I remember right those are the wrong bolts.  I think the origional ones are m12 x 1.25  And they were about 1 3/4" long overall.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

What a bone head :moon:

It appears that the parts idoit got you the trans to t-case bolts that have a 14 mm head and 10x1.25 mm thread.

You need a 17 mm head and a 12x1.25 mm thread. I will post the proper # tomorrow AM.

thank you so much!  seems to be an elusive part, as i have everything else lined up for the swap.  it's always the little snags that you get hung up on.  parts guy was an idiot though, i told him "bellhousing to the engine" 3 times and that's the only thing he showed me :slap:

well, made a trip back to the stealer.  there was a younger girl working there that was easy on the eyes  and she brought up the right diagram on the spot.  i ordered the part number that had a dotted line going to the lower 2 holes in the bellhousing, so hopefully i got it right.  i'll find out for sure on wednesday when they come in :crossed:
