Tranny ID?

Just droped my trany to put a clutch in and when i took off the rear drive line about 5 or 6 ounces of gear oil poured out and i just need to know what tranny i have so i can get the right seal.Its an 87 4runner with 2.4L.

oh and shouldn't the rear drive line just fall off cause mine is stuck in the diff side.

Nope it is very common for them to be stuck.  You can either hit it with a hammer or just give it a toss to one side and it will lever itself off the diff.

that didn't work i had already beat the crap out of it. I even took a chisel and a crow bar and a few other thing to it. :flamer:

Spray pentrating lube on it & try again after letting it set for a little. You did pull the bolts first didn't you?  :dunno:

I usually use an couple old screwdrivers under the flange on opposite sides to pry it out when rusted.

put it back together, and leave the bolts out. then drop the clutch @ 7K rpm!  :_order:

Well it could be a R151F, he didnt specify if it was a Turbo or Normally Aspirated 4Runner

Mike, how much play is acceptable side to side on the transfer rear companion flange? I know axial play is around .15mm

What?

I don't get the Q but the eaistest way to distinguish between a R151F and anything else is by a hole at the bottom of the bell housing that has a rubber plug from the factory. It's some kind of access hole to the clutch or something, and is about 1" or 1.25" ID, and this is only found on R151F transmissions that are found behind 22R-TE Turbo engines..

Other less obvious methods of comparison is that the Turbo Transmission has a 23-spline output as apposed to a 21-spline output as in non-turbo 4cyl trans, and it is about half an inch longer than the W- and G-series trans.
