Tail housingn cracked on L-43????
« on: May 18, 2009, 09:54:35 PM »
Just a quick question. If the tail housing was cracked on my L43 would it be leaking gear oil? and is it possible to replace without pulling the tranny? It looks like i can just pull the t-case and pull the tail housing off...... Kind of a dumb question, but any help is appreciated.

I can't say for sure on the leak, but if it's low enough then it's probably the source.  I believe there's an aluminum adapter between the tranny and case, so if it's cracked you should be able to swap it.

Well it turned out that there was no gasket or sealent on it at all. The previous owner just tried to silicone the outside where the adapter meets the tranny........it didnt work. so re-sealed it the right way and no more leaks
