They are the same. The Auto has it's own separate computer under the heater console.

k let me reiterate since apparently i wasnt clear

an auto computer will run a 5spd truck

a 5spd computer will run an auto truck

the auto uses its own computer mounted under the trim in front of the shifter

the ecu controls the motor not the tranny.

the tranny has its own computer.

X whatever.  Engine should run but you might get a check engine light.

I did the swap and haven't had a thing change. Got the ECU from the donor truck (M/T) and was the same damn thing as mine (A/T).

I think it will work but the Auto trans won't shift on its own since there will be no computer to control the shifts, so you have to shift it manually.

once again

THE AUTO HAS ITS OWN ECU

I think he already has the AT computer, he just wants to know if another ECU will work. I believe we all said YES.

the MAIN computer will work to run the truck but if you do not put in the trans computer the auto won't shift so you will have to manually shift it.

i think you missed the main point... he has an auto.. he needs an ECU - Engine Control .... ive done auto to five speed swaps as well they are not difficult whatsoever in anyway. hes not doing that, he is changing an ECU

re-read it all before you post again to figure out what is going on. he isnt worried about his auto shifting he isnt changing trannies he isnt changing tranny computers.....

also... if you did an auto to five speed swap how did you figure that out? by taking off the auto computer and then trying to drive someplace with the auto still in there? even with the info your talking about you would have had to have done a 5spd to auto swap not the other way around.

read again and figure out the issue before you tell ppl things wont shift. it will all work fine.
