your motor will now be an interference motor, replace the timing chain, and u will lose some compression

NO  you cannot use a early block with the 86 head, it WILL NOT WORK
you "can" put a 22R head on a 22RE  but it wont have but maybe 70 hp,very much SUCKAGE

it wont even bolt up unless you have a 3/8 inch thick headgasket

with some extensive modifications you can put the efi intake on the 22R head so you would have the block and head of the 22R

I would rebuild a 22r or 22re before swapping in a 3.0 V6.  just my 2 cents.

The 3.0 sucks the big one.

I replaced everything on my 22RE except the block and main caps, and it's pretty simple stuff, and not that expensive.  I'd rebuild the 22RE and keep the head with the block it's meant for.  Besides... if the head's rebuilt, and you rebuild the bottom end, you'll have an engine that'll last 300K miles if you treat it properly.

yeah my daily driver has the 3.0 and it does suck, but i really wasnt looking forward to possibly replacing the whole block, but i could probably find one for cheap, unfortunately it will be another week or two till i can tear into that thing, hopefully if it is just the rod bearing its not too much of a hassle to replace and hopefully it didnt really mess things up in there

dude,  the bottom end is not hard  to work on, its pretty simple actually, and you have the 84 22R for parts :psss: the cranks and connecting rods are identical :psss:  you could take the crank (if damaged) from the 22RE and replace it with the 22R crank, AND  if you are careful you can swap the cranks without pulling the head off the 22RE

but  i would use new rod and main bearings,  just coat them with a lube like STP oil treatment (sticky and slick)
