Topic: Please Help - Voltage regulator making noise - 1980 4X4 stock

Would someone please assist.  I have a 1980 Toyota 4X4 stock.  The voltage regulator began making a noise, a buzz sound.  Noise became progressively worse.  During noise the Alternator (charge) light would show.

I replaced the voltage regulator.  But, the problem continued.  Voltage regulator began smoking.  I quickly turn the engine off.  It looks like the voltage regulator has a fuse like system.  I don't think, the fuse actually broke.

Any Ideas?  What the problem could be?  Or how I should go about checking?

I think, I'll start by removing the alternator and taking it to Autozone or Oreiyl's for checking.  The problem did progress so something woreout or gradually broke.

Looks like the wiring from alternator to voltage regulator is original, probably should be replaced, old and brittle.

OK, had a loose connection at the alternator.  problem corrected by securing wire.
