Ignition switch or what?
« on: Aug 10, 2008, 01:19:32 PM »
Yesterday the radio in my ´90 turned itself off and then on again while driving on a trail. Then the "battery" light came on. I turned the heater fan, lights (DRLs), and radio off. Then the "battery" light got dimmer but was still there. I pulled over and checked my batterys, all connections were good, the gaugelights on the batterys were green and my multimeter showed 13.2V at idle.

When I got home switched the motor off and when I tried to start it again nothing happened. The "battery" light was the only light that came on in my cluster and I only heard one relay click. When I had turned the key back and forth a few times I was able to start my truck. I then tried it again,  I had turned the key a few times and nothing happened until I flashed my hi-beams, then every thing worked fine. Next time I had to tap it firmly with my Leatherman to get any response. Now nothing happens and the "battery" light is the only sign of life.

If my diagnosis is correct then this is the ignition switch. Wouldn´t that be correct?
