cooling issues
« on: Jul 06, 2008, 10:08:41 PM »
i have an 85 runner with a 22re and i am having some cooling issues. i am having the temp gage go up to the upper white line right below the top and just staying there but there is nothing being puked out the over flow also when you go to touch the hood it is not hot how ever today i felt the hood directly over the motor not just in the front and that was kinda hot but i dont know how warm is hot or what ever. the troble shooting that i have done so for was change the t-stat, i had the rad flushed, and i changed the temp sensor and then i checked to make sure gage it was working. and it worked fine. so here i am. :beerchug: :beerchug:

drill a  small (1/8 inch) hole in the tstat, this will allow the air to bleed out of the system

OH  and get a aftermarket temp gauge

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you have a stant thermostat - remove it, take one last look at and chuck it as far as you can   Stants suck major ass, at least in toyotas.  Get a quality replacement and install it.  If you have a good thermostat you should never have to drill a hole in it.  My current one is a beck arnley I think, which was installed after going through a :pokinit: pile of stants - and don't EVER buy a stant no-fail.  They're supposed to lock in the open position if they ever mess up, but mine locked shut just after I bought it  :shake:
