My foot slipped off the clutch today at an uphill with decent RPMs going.

I heard a loud crack come from the center console, and the front part that surrounds the sticks had popped up and out of place from the base unit.  This is not what is supposed to happen.  You'd expect the rear tires to spin, or the clutch to slip instead.  Imagine unloading the engine onto the tranny with nice sticky tires and nowhere for that energy to go.

Anyway - my stick is now tilted, off to the right.  Now, if you put it in 1st gear, you're where 3rd used to be, and if you put it in 5th or reverse, you hit the right edge of the console.  As you sit, you gotta REACH and put it into 5th.

Still drives and runs fine.  Motor mounts look alright, tranny looks fine.  Could there be any hidden problem here I'm not looking at?  I don't understand trannys enough to know what the heck happened here.  Did the shifter realign somehow, did it bend?  It obviously slammed the center console enough to pop it up.

Scratching my head wondering if any of you ever heard of such a thing.

You probably broke a motor mount or tranny/tcase mount.   The sound you heard was probably the drivetrain hitting the floorboard.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Holy smokes.  Today in the light, I was able to check it out.  The tranny shifted on the crossmember.  The four holes are empty.  Tomorrow I'll have new bolts for it and a couple of guys over to help me wrestle it back into place.  It's off by 1/8 to 1/2 inch.  Yikes.  First time for me.

Got under and lifted the tranny so we could thread the bolts.  Worked out great.  Used to have a little vibration that made me replace the rear pinion bearing, and this turns out to be the cause.

Despite all that, it still seems like the shifter is a little off.  No matter, long as it works, I'll leave it be.

Amazing how many F-you suprises you find when we really check a truck over...
