Shock/suspension sag
« on: Apr 20, 2008, 07:06:00 PM »
How much will my front suspension drop when I mount my bumper/winch onto my 86 4Runner? Will buying stronger shocks with better valving work?  :headscratch:
Why won't the DMV recognize mud as a color?

It depends on what bumper you are planning on running in the front. as for shocks the bilstein 5100s should work fine

Shocks don't improve your load carrying capabilities, they just control the speed at which the suspension cycles.  The springs carry the weight.

If you want to see what a bumper will do to your rig find out what it weighs and put something of that weight on the front of your rig and take measurements.  Have someone sit on the front of your rig...

The ship weight from Marlin was 46 pounds, the winch will be at least another 85. Will that be to much for the IFS I have, with Rancho 5000?

Set your girlfriend on the hood and see how much it sinks.  :gap:

With IFS you can turn up your torsion bars to bring it back up to where you want it.

I have the stock torsion bars with 33" tires. Should I consider upgradeing?

We're not going to be able to give you an accurate answer.  You have rough weights on what you want to add, so have someone that weighs about that much sit on the front of your truck.  Otherwise, just put the damn stuff on and adjust your torsion bars accordingly.

while  it could have been said  in a  nicer manner,  i totally agree,

stick someone  of that  weight on the hood  and step back,  its not going to sag  more than 1/2 inch over all

if it does  crank the torsion bars up

for the money  i wouldnt bother with aftermarket  t-bars,  you could just about sas the thing  for the effort  it takes  to replace them
