Looky what I just got.
« on: Mar 04, 2008, 08:35:48 PM »

It's out of an 87 truck.  While my main interest is the t-case, what kind of transmission is this?
Is it better/stronger that what's in my 84 4Runner? Just wondering.

BTW I paid $30 for all of it. :circle:

no, that is a top shift, which makes it a W56...it is better than the G series in your 84.  R151F trannies are forward shift.

My 84 T-case is forward shift, can I make it the rear case and swap trans and all into mine?

yeah...but you will need another set of top shift tcase rails.  put the w56 in, with a topshift crawlbox behind it, and a complete topshift case behind that.

I was planning on pulling the trans to replace the clutch, so might as well put the w56 in.
Gonna go thru it and make sure it's in working order.  I was told the reverse syncros were bad.

Would a Marlin twin stick kit fix the "forward shift" problem?

no.  you will need another set of topshift rails to run duals on that model W56.  Search around on here, somebody just made his own set out of forward shift rails.

Oh, well if I can make them out of the forward shift rails, then that's cool.

That looks like a top shift to me, If it is a r151 it will have 9 bolts holding the bell... on, and a 2" drain plug on the bottom of the bell... and a forward shift t/c   :headscratch:

W56B is what you have there since the center is not aluminum.
