Tranny and carb conversion
« on: May 20, 2008, 09:20:20 PM »
I just picked up a 92' 4wd Pu and have a couple of questions. First of all i bought it with no motor so i quickly solved this with a 90' 22re motor my buddy had with bad bearings. So i rebuilt it all and it is pretty much ready to go in. He gave me the ecu and the harness for the new motor and all of the goodies but i would like to carburate it, i have a carb of an 83' and still need an intake manifold. I was curious what year manifold i will need and all of the other junk i need to add/take off to make this conversion possible.

Another question i have is would it be possible to put a tranny and t-case under it that i took of an 85' solid front axle? The 92' is stock with IFS and I'm sure it will probably need different drive shaft lengths and so on. If anyone has answers and or ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

the carb off the 83 isnt going to work... that was the old style 22r .... not what the 22re had... something about bolt holes not being in the right place for the manifold or something.....

yes, however a carb engine uses a different computer, i do not know about the wiring harness

you will need a carb intake and carb from an 85+ 22r

from what people have told me, the computer on the 22r doesnt do much other than regulate the electric choke, but i am not 100% sure on its function.... it is still a carb though, nad is for the most part mechanical....

are there any emissions testing or inspection where you are at? because i know this wouldnt fly here in CA, to be street legal

all you need is a 85 and up  carb  manifold,  and a weber 32/36 carb,  1 wire from ignition to the choke,  no  ECU needed at all

I did a little more research on the converting the carb and the Offenhauser Dual Port Intake Manifold says it will bolt onto any 22r from 82-95 so my guess is that i will need to run a head of a 22r maybe?
