22re has a miss
« on: Jan 31, 2008, 08:52:04 AM »
i converted over to efi about a year ago now.  when i did the swap, i left the oblong shaped deal on the end of the cam shaft that use to run the mechanical fuel pump.  last week, i was getting ready to change the oil and decided to take it off before i did.  i took it off, didn't put and kind of a spacer back in to make up for it, and ever since it's had a miss at idle and if i rev it up and hold it.  i don't feel it at all when i'm driving, just when there isn't any load on the engine.  could it be possible that the piece i took off spaced the timing gear out and it changed the timing enough to cause this?  i checked the timing and its at 5 deg. with the wire shorted.  i really don't know what else it could be.  should i put the piece back in?  the only way for me to get the miss to go away is to retard the timing, but then the truck is gutless.  let me know what you guys think.

Just put it back on man, I left mine on when I converted from manual to electric fuel pump and never had any issues.

well, i put it back on and the miss is gone. go figure.  i have the distributor turned as far as i can and i can't get any more than 5 deg. out of it.  hey toby, does the gear you have from an efi have an extra washer too that goes with it?  let me know.  i'm interested.  it would be nice to get a few more deg. out of it.
