Looking For Help
«

I need someone who can weld and has an impact wrench. My predicament is, my front crank bolt is stripped and I need to weld on a new bolt on, then need an impact wrench to get the bolt out.
I will most likely need to be able to work on this in your yard or someplace, the radiator will need to come out to get to the bolt. All I'm trying to do is replace the front main seal.
Please help. I would like to do this next weekend (3/1-3/2). Thanks

my bad. Stockton, CA
Jim, if all else fails, I could meet up with you sometime after March 8th. That week is spring break. I striped the head tying to break it loose, bumping the starter and then me kicking the breaker bar.

By stripping do you mean you rounded off the head of the bolt? You could grind those flat and try again

That's what Twistedtoy said but i don't think i can fit one in there. My other recommendation was to hammer on a 6 pt impact socket and get an impact wrench on it.
PS I stripped it with a 12pt socket.

Yeah Ive done that before but not on the crank pulley bolt, its a pregnant dog but if you can get like a Dremel type tool you could carefully grind the edges flat, your idea about the 6 point might work too, the only thing about welding on a nut is would the weld hold up to that much torque or pressure if its that tight

The dremel i could do.
I was wondering if a weld would hold a nut like that too, but i was convinced the heat from welding would loosen whatever is holding it. I think i should still buy a torch and heat it up before i try and break it loose.

It couldnt hurt to try the torch deal either, I would exhaust every other option first though before I tried welding
