Tapping a steerig box for hydro assist
« on: Jan 07, 2008, 08:26:02 PM »
Ok Ill try this here. I have tapped a few early model IFS steering boxes and have had no problems for hydro assist. I tapped my buddy's late model IFS steering box and ran into major problems on the trail. The difference between the two boxes is that there is that a late model has a 10mm allen bolt above the centering valve. I think that is where I f'd up when I put it back together. Does anyone know what it is for and what it does.

For some reason it was binding really bad till finally something gave dont know what yet. I still need to break it apart and take a look. I just thought I would ask around before doing so.

if you tapped into the centering valve, it would want to keep the wheel straight when the pressure is built up. no matter what way you turn the wheel.
when in doubt..gas it out!

I did not tap into the centering valve. The hoses were the way they were supposed to be and the box was as clean as a whistle when I put it back together.
