celica transmissions
« on: Jul 31, 2004, 05:37:12 PM »
I have an early eighty's celica transmission in my 86 2wd truck. I am in the process of gathering parts for a 4wd conversion. One of the things I need to know is if the celica transmission's clutch will work with a w56, seeing as how that is the tranny I am planning on using in my conversion. Is the Celica tranny a w series, or is it a G series tranny?

from a little parts research, i see the clutch size, diaphram depth, and spline are all the same, on both 22re truck/4runner and celicas. but the clutch kit part numbers dont match up, i'm assuming they use the same cluth disc and pressure plate, but have a differnt throw out and piolet bearing. im not for sure on this but it appears that at least the disc and pressure plate could be reused. im also pretty sure the w and g series use the same clutch, its the r series that is different (bigger).

All RWD Celicas and non turbo Supras from the '80s use a W58 tranny. All W-series Trans use the same release bearing and pilot bearing(check ACT's web site) so yes your current clutch will work just fine.

Cool, that is the info I was looking for. Supratruck,  what is "ACT," and what is their website? Thanks again for your help.
