84 22R timing chain ?s
« on: Dec 12, 2007, 02:55:12 PM »
hey guys i've noticed that on start up i can hear what i assume is the timing chain slapping on the guides. it only lasts for about a second or so but i'm just wondering if this is normal or not. the guides and chain have been replaced before but the idiot who put them back in put the plastic guides in. could the tensioner be going out? also are 84's single row or dual row. i've heard that some are dual but mine is definetly single.

thanks
lets not and say we did.

84 came with a single chain. pretty easy to go double. pull your valve cover off and check your chain guides. make sure they're not all chewed up. if your chain is old it may need to be replaced. some like to run a Toyota single chain with steel guides. i like the double chain.

i can't remember when exactly my records say that it was replaced but i'll go back and look. i have looked at double chain kits and think that i would like to do it but i'm out of a job right now and i need to get some other stuff taken care of before i start getting stuff for my truck that i don't need right now.
lets not and say we did.
