Body Mount?
« on: Nov 21, 2007, 05:45:44 AM »
So I have a M.C. 5" trail flex kit on my 81 truck.  I put a V8 in and this kit was not designed for that weight.  So my shackles are hitting the cab mount.  Anyone know if I can cut part of this mount out and not lose structure integrity?

I have these from Sky-Manufacturing

http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/

Toyota Front Wide Body Boomerang Shackles.

Our new wide body boomerang shackles were designed so that not only do you eliminate the narrow portion of the shackle hitting the frame, but now you will also cure the second problem. The problem we saw was that under compression, the wide body shackle now hit the body mount. Instead of cutting the body mount, we decided to build a shackle that cleared it all together. Above is the Boomerang shackle kit. It includes all 4 shackle plates, 4 metric bolts, 4 lock nuts, and 4 aluminum spacers. They Are 2 inch's longer than stock, which nets 1 inch of lift.

Price- $60 Pr.

The kit would be a good way to go, but I see no reason that you cant cut that lip up a bit that its hitting, at that point it doesnt look structural,  you would have to shave it almost all the way up the frame before it became structural, but there is no need to go that far seing how your spring will hit the frame beforethe shackle can go that high.
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

I could just make those shackles.  I will have to see which I would rather do.  Maybe get underneath the truck this weekend and take a look.

I would imagine that the front springs are going to get even worse from the extra weight you just added. I don't think Marlin builds a spring pack for that you may want to seek a spring builder to fix that issue. My brother had his 4Runner's springs redone by a custom spring builder and they wanted to know front axle, rear axle, total, the actual spring lengths and some other variables to build him a custom set. Worked awsome they were very flexy and the didn't sag out.

If I decide to keep the truck I might do that.  I am going to get underneath this weekend and decide if it would be easier to make new shackles or redo the body mounts.

Yeah after a quick look I think I am going to cut it up some make a gusset and then if it seems like I need it I might just make me some of those shackles.  Now I just need time to do it  :dunno:
