Topic: Engine misses between idle and 3000 rpm

OK so I have a 85 4runner with EFI and two days ago my engine started missing and loss of power from idle until i hit 3000 rpm them back to normal until I shift. Then after diving 15 miles it went back to normal on missing.    but now its back so last night I checked the timing, cap, rotor, plugs and regaped them, wires, new fuel pump, and fuel filter. Still missing  So i guess it could be a clogged injector, stretched timing chine, or a bad coil but not share. Has anyone had this problem? Help it is driving me crazy    thanks.

I highly doubt it is a clogged injector. How good is your igniter ground? Do you have a backup igniter you can swap in to see if its your igniter?

Doubt it's a streched timing chain too, that would cause the missing to increase during extended use. Given what you have checked the coil is the more likley cause.

Thanks a lot i do have a spere i will swap it when i get home from work and i will check the ground. I was hopping someone would say it probably not an injector or timing chine I will let yall know how it goes and thanks again for the help guys

Thought i would update yall on how i fixed the problem. I replased the pickup coil in the distributor, that did not fix it so i tried swapping igniter, still missed checked all grounds and nothing so the last thing to do was to replace the injectors. I found a cleaned, rebuilt, and balanced set of 4 Denso injectors for 160.99 shipped. Bingo fixed    the miss now its idle smooth and i have my power back woo hoo  . They had close to 300,000 miles on them so ya they needed to be replaced anyways. The number one injector had the tip broke off  . In the pic it shows the good one nexted to the bad one

I put them in on sept 16th and i have had NO problems. it was like night and day instant power so sweet  . Are you having a problem with yours missing or running ruff?

Good job man You should take your old injectors to a shop who rebuilds and flow tests them, so you can see just which injector it was that was giving you the most problems.

In Fresno we've got a shop who will flow test, clean, and rebuild a set of 4 injectors for around $60. If you marked which injector came from which cylinder, it would be cool to know which one was the culprit.

Ya i marked them i will find a shop and get them cheeked out. The one out of the #1 cy... has a broke tip so well see

Yeah I had the same problem with a parts truck I had last year but I didn't spend anytime on it to figure out what was wrong with it.Now my 94 4runner on its first trip out after building it is doing the exact thing as you are describing.
when mine is acting bad it won't idle above 500 even with the idle screw all the way out then when I take off I can put it right down to the floor and it will just miss real bad then when it hits 3000 it will take right off like nothing was a matter with it.
I hope this works for mine because you probably saved me a lot of time playing with other things.

wondering if you figured out what the problem was my 94 3. slow starts missing at about 3200 rpm
changed computer,dist,&fuel filter . but miss comes and goes don't want too waste any more money
looking for help.

if you don't wont to spend any more money you don't wont to know what i did  JK, i finally bought new injectors and that fixed it. the number one injector tip was missing so i think thats what was giving me my problems or it was one or more clogged injectors. for 4 new balanced bosh injectors cost me $160. good luck
