damaged inner knuckle
« on: Feb 02, 2008, 07:59:31 PM »

Thanks to all for the great help and information. The repair went great and the truck wheeled fantastic. No leaks, breaks, grinding etc. This forum is fantastic for us new to the Toyota game. Thanks again.

I bought a truck knowing it had a broken birf. What I found when I tore into it was that they must have driven it for a while afte breaking it. The birf scarred up the inside of the inner knuckle. Some damage to the lower bearing opening but it seems the races were fine. My question is....if the new races and bearings tap in okay, do I have anything to worry about. I have pics I can send. Do not know how to post. Thanks in advance.

Depending on how deep the gouges are it may be ok.  If not too bad just dremel them down and lod it up.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

Ya it is the inner knuckle that is welded on to the entire axle housing. I would assume if those get damaged the only option is a new housing. I guess someone could weld a new one on.....but over my ability level. Hey Ferg....what did you mean by lod it up? I think I can dremel and fill smooth. Thanks for the help everyone

While on the subject of this frontend rebuild. The brakes are trashed. What is the overall opinion on the V-6 brake caliper upgrade. The truck is a 1985 with 35's on it. Dual cases and 5.29 gears. Already has hysteer

this part is whats called the "knuckle ball". IF they arent bad then yes, you can fill in the gouges with weld and smooth with a grinder (very, very, very carefully)

.....good luck trying to get it to seal properly though
