Yota Trantsmission Confusion
« on: May 28, 2004, 12:43:13 PM »
I was just reading the July '04 Petersen's 4Wheel and Off-Road Magazine and on pg.44 is a picture a very basic description of Yota tranny's, I crawled under my '92 P/U 22RE and found what appears to be a G58 according to the mag then I came and looked at Marlin's site and found a completely different picture showing mine as being a W Series.  Now I'm confused.  Which one do I have and can I put a dual T-case with mine?

Any Help?
Thankx.

I belive that you do have a W type trans. as for duel cases, well it depents on if you have a chain type transfer case. do you have 7 or 5 bolts on the back of it? a chain has 7 and you can't run duels with that.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

If you have part time 4x then you have a w56, if you have full time then its gonna be the g58 I believe.  But the chances of you having a g series are about 100,000 to one.  And yess its simple to put a crawler behind a w series.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

there weren't any fulltime 4wd minis ever made, from the factory at least

the g58 came on trucks that had a 4 banger and ADD, it used a wierd 26 spline chaindrive transfer case.  not really useful for much other than a stock truck

Did anyone look at the pictures in the magazine?  I'm also not sure which T-case I have.  What does ADD mean?  As I said its a '92 4cyl. Part-time with selectable hubs baught from Lithia Toyota in Medford, OR in Feb. '92.   As far as I can tell there are 6 bolts that attach the t-case to the trans, however I can't tell if there is one that goes in the top where the shifters enter.

Okay, Looking at the picture on Marlin's Trans. Rebuilding Site it is a W56, it matches the picture :smack:. I'm not sure about the T-case still but I also am not sure which bolts to count.  If I pull the drain plug and see a chain I guess that I'll know, right?  The T-case has these # on the botton drive section "11105355" does that help :help:?  If it is not chain driven what do I need in order to put the dual t-case kit in? Thankx. :driving:

if you have a 4 banger and w56 tranny, you most definitely have a gear driven case :beerchug:
