Correct me if i'm wrong...
« on: Sep 18, 2007, 07:29:59 PM »
Okay my clutch is crazy. it'll work perfect one day then I'll have like no pressure or disengagement, add fluid and it works itself out in a couple days but is a big pain not being able to get into gears and such. I believe through my searches that this is my clutch master cylinder. Anything else it could be?... the clutch seems strong when this problem isn't going on the truck shifts and drives perfect. thanks for your help.

either the master or the slave...I try to change them both at the same time...it seems either increased pressure from a new master blows the slave, or increased resistance from a new slave blows the master...but either could be bad, and check your flex line as well.

you say you have to add fluid...is your carpet wet under the clutch pedal or is there fluid on the ground under the slave?

well i believe the slave has been replaced recently... so maybe it made my master cyclinder go. what is the flex line?

There is a small amount of dripping from what i think is the master cyclinder on the inside of the cab on the floor.

if it's on the carpet and the slave was recently replaced, your MC is toast.  the flex line is the rubber line that runs between the body and the slave.

autozone has a master cylinder for like 29$ that is the right one right?  And is there anything special about swapping one of these out besides having extra fluid?

072-8357 is the correct Beck/Arnley brand number.  Bench bleed the thing if you can, and then bleed the system on the truck.

mount the master cly. on the truck or and a bench vise ( I like to put it in a vise). then top it off with brale fluid and put your finger over the brake line hole and gently push the master cly. in and out. BUT everytime you your about to let off you cover the hole so no air can return back into the master. and do that till you have no more air in the master, then you can let you finger off the hole and the fluid should dribble out. slap it on and bleed the whole system.
