cruise control?

i have an 86 4runner w/ factory cruise control. the switch on the dash comes on, but it wont set,decel, or resume. sometimes it will accel though? any thoughts?

check to see if it has a sec. brake switch for the c.c. if so it maybe sticking on :dunno:

You can cancel the cruise function by stepping on the brake.  Of course Im sure you knew that but brainless is referring to the use of a switch just for the cruise circuit.  But I dont think their is one.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Check your brake light bulbs. I once had a similar problem and it turned ouit to be a bad brake light bulb.

When you press the Brake pedal your cuise control should shut Off. I guess it's all part of the same circuit and if theres a bad connection or something than the cruise control will not turn on Thats what i thought when he said that.
