tranny issues
« on: Apr 26, 2004, 11:33:16 PM »
i have a an 86 4runner that was running great until a last month. the tranny now makes very loud noises when i dont have my foot on the throttle, go to slow down, shift. it has a rattling sound. also when im on the freeway when i go to shift into 5th gear it rattles and is really quite violent. and when im the freeway andlet off the gas the whole dam truck shakes, especially the tranny. im curious if anyone has an idea of what it is, or any help at all would be appreciated.

Well in every discription of the problem you mention that you where doing something with the tranny so I'm guessing it's the tranny. A bad bearing in there for sure  or a u joint  :dunno:

My guess would be a u-joint is heading south and the trans is amplifying the sound.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I would agree, u-joint sounds like its going.  Trannies usually gradually go from hum to rattle to spitting gears out the side.
