exhaust for 85
« on: Apr 19, 2004, 06:55:19 PM »
I understand that this may be redundant, But I have no access to benders or muffler shops willing to do custom work.  Is there any real difference between the exhaust in an 86 4runner and an 85?  I have an 85 and would like 2.25 exhaust(bolt together),  but can't seem to find any listings.  PLEASE HELP!!  Thanks

Wow where do you live that doesnt have a exhaust shop?  If I remember right the 4 runner has a shorter wheelbase so youd have to lengther the pipe somewhere.

I have shops around, but none are willing to do custom work.  Too many smog laws!!!(PITA).  So the exhaust is basically the same for 85 to 86 4runners?

Oh shoot if theyre both runner then yea the exhaust is the same.  I was thinking you wanted to put runner pipes on a pickup!  Man thats tough that the laws are that strict around you, I like living here and not having any laws about smog (yet)

Thanks a lot man,  you are on this board so much, how do you find the time to work on your stuff?  I am fairly new to wheeling and building yotas, but I love mine though.  Thanks again

I think were in the same boat,  I just had a barn built, but no floor or electric yet,  gets a little frustrating.  I love this board, it has given me a lot of good advise and ideas!!!

Mine has a header, then I chopped down a 45° bend from kregans and welded that to the collecter, and put the o2 in there. From there, there is a piece of 2.25" pipe to the cat, then straight to the muffler, then a 45° bend and it goes out the side. Total cost: $26.50 not including the cat.

EDIT: Added a pic of it before I added the cat (was tuning the motor)

Question :headscratch:what size of exhaust tubing should be used behind a four banger with increased flow heads, a big bore throttle body, camed with dual springed valves :dunno: I have two" right now but am thinking I should increase diameter

2 1/4 is about the right size for what you are doing.  If you want a bit more top end power then go ahead and get 2 1/2.  But that will sacrifice what low end you have.
