Story around the campfire is that the 2 piece adapters have a tendency to develop leaks. I've got the 2 piece and so far it's been working fine for me, BUT it isn't the most "polished" adapter and I can definitely see it causing some people problems. I was unaware that there was a 1 piece adapter, but if there is I'd hit it up.

last time i looked Lcengineering sells adapters.. the one piece came from redline weber but i believe you have to buy the whole carb kit to get it..  I have a two piece I'm running on a worn out 20r that hits redline all the time 5500rpm+ and I haven't cracked it yet. but i see how it could be done pretty easy if the bolts got overtightened..

yeah i was wondering about removeing that center section. seem like the intake air would just ram right into it. I had to grind the plates to get it to fit. even the one piece looks like it needs to be cleaned up to fit right.

The air won't ram into the center piece because it matches the bores on the carb.  I took mine and matched it both to the carb and intake manifold gaskets and ended up with very little in the middle but still some.  Can't tell you what the benefit was because the engine blew up directly after that.

Edit:  I take that back.  I matched the manifold to the adapter, had it backward in my head.  I do think I cleaned out any ridges in the adapter though.

Good luck with it!  I coulda swore I took pics of the cleaned up inside of the adapter, but what I remember doing was just removing the little ridges and rounding the edges so there were no steps for air to run into.  Just tried making the carb/adapter/manifold transition as smooth as possible.

And when it creates a vacuum leak the truck will run for 1-5 minutes and die. Only way you can keep it running is keeping your foot on the gas. I ripped my hair out and contemplated selling my truck because I couldn't find the leak. Replaced the manifold gasket like five times and even had a propane bottle hooked to a release valve so I could find the leak.  Such a PITA....
