new wheel fits...no spacer required :D
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:08:37 AM »
finally got around to testing my trial wheel that arrived a few weeks ago.

running fj60 vented rotors w/large 4runner calipers

16" wheels are available through summit with a custom BS = 3 1/8th inches

NO caliper clearance issues to report :)

now I just need to order 3 more, and rubber to match

The only thing better then the manufacturing quality of the wheel is the cost - $47 each,

Part# 70-7660-SPEC
http://www.uswheel.com/trailer/75_detail.gif

SPEC = you must specify the BS
US wheel informed me that 3 1/8th is the Minimum BS available on this 16x6 wheel.

All custom BS wheels will be BARE metal, and take a week or so before they are shipped...you shoot them what ever color you want.

last pic w/TRE clearence

btw,
They also make a 16x7 (70-7760-SPEC) wheel, which may be available w/less BS...

Originally I was going to use an etching primer, but only found etching solution.

tip - wear gloves when dealing with etching/water solution...ouch

After looking at these pics, I've decided to rattle-can the rings black...think they will look nicer two-tone :D

cleaned up tire beads with a wire brush (outside of back-side, and both sides of front bead)

placed wheel on the ground, and install wheel with some soapy-water
(surprised how easy it was)

through in your balancing media (I used Airsoft pellets) and center wheel on face of ring before installing the ring.

torqued all 35 bolts @10lbs, and call it good...

After some high-speed tests, I was not pleased w/the Airsoft media...and with only one day before Rubithon (don't trailer my rig), I had them mounted as a regular wheel :(

I really like the versatility of these DIY Beadlocks.
Run them as a regular wheel, then switch to a Beadlock system when I upgrade to larger tires :D

They worked great on the trail :D

for the record, no air was lost while tires where mounted as Beadlocks...

see you on the trail,
manny

How do you like those Cooper Tires?  I've been checking into them for my project, but not too many people are running them.

I have the same tire in a 35. I couldn't be happer. They grab rock (granite) hard.  So much so that I popped my front up in a place I just burned tire before. Had it in two low with a locker in back. I was surprised they never slipped.  They just grabbed and pulled me up. They clean well in snow and mud. They are quiet and wear well.  They air down to around 10 psi (or 8 if I am feeling lucky) and no issues.  They also track straight and do not follow ruts or gooves in the road. For the Sierra Nevadas, they are a perfect tire year around.  I would by them over MTRs anyday.  But for Mississippi mud, well that isn't what the tire is designed for.
