Thanks for the info.I found a used warn xd9000 w/rope that I made a offer on,so we will see?
i run a warn m8000 on my 85 runner a friend has a m6000 on his 84 toy p/u and we both love em his m6000 will not pull a burried chevy in snow but an 8000 will. I would go no smaller than a 8000lb winch, Iand as my friends at fwp say "friends dont let friends buy mile markers."

I have had a Mile Marker SE9500 for a year and It is the most powerful winch I'v ever used. The Warn 8000 can't touch it. My  warn 8,000 had a solonoid failure so I gave it away and bought the M.M., which I outfitted with ORO x-line. This bad boy has a 3/8" x 100 ft. rope. The warn had a TINY rope by comparison. That alone says something to me... Sure the M.M. may be a chicago electric which are very inexpensive, but this just means both a front and rear winch are just over the price of that Warn.

I would hope you have zero issues with a new winch. :smack:
Let me know how its held up in a couple years though, those T-max are made in Austrailia or something ???
They build recovery gear right over there...

my buddy tyson had a t-maxx winch and the brake on it exploded. It took t-maxx like three months to sent him the parts to fix it and then the engage and disengage lever snapped on it the next weekend. IMO they aren't worth the money, buy a warn they are proven tough.  :twocents:

You might also want to check out the Tabor 9K winch built by Warn. I've had one on my Tacoma for about 3 years now and have been very happy with it. It was pretty afordable too....I think I paid $479 for mine and that was complete with roller fairlead. It will be coming off of my Tacoma to go on my 83 here pretty soon.

I have had this thing for over two years????  I guess some peoples definition of new are different.

They are designed in autralia, built in China.  Dont knock em too hard though, I believe the motors for Warns are built in Brazil. Nothin is made in America entirely these days, and if it is...it will eventually change.

Not defending T-maxx, but I know of plenty of people of have had there Warns take a crap. Eveverything breaks, Just buy the winch you can afford.

Oh yeah I forgot... I live in the RUST area on the coast and all our winches look like HELL after six months...
That is what eventually kills them is water damage over time..... :_oops:

I have not read the entire thread so maybe this has already been said...

I don't think I have ever met someone on the trail with a WARN winch that didn't work.  I have met several people cursing their other brands saying they would spend the money for a WARN the next time.  It only takes one failure to wish you got the best.  It all depends on how much money you have to spend, how you plan to use it, and how much you are willing to risk to save a few coins.  There are certainly other quality brands that may perform flawlessly, but I think a WARN is a sure bet.

My dad has a Harbor Freight on his Blazer and it worked great the one or two times he has used it, but he wouldn't trust it if it was used every weekend.

You've got a good point, but there was a pretty big thread about warn vs. competition on pirate a while back and a lot of people said their warn has effed out on them. Of course, it wasn't the majority of people, and I'll bet that warn is more reliable than other electric brand winches, but still it doesn't seem anywhere near full proof.  Warns are nice because the line speed is much quicker. Mile marker type winches are pretty s...l...o...w... Anyway, just my  :twocents: ...  some people are luckier than others about these things.
