80's Toyota 4runner looking thing......

In the 80's toyota made a two door 4runner looking thing? What years? and what was it called? looking for a project truck. Thanks  :bowdown:

have seen them for sale , but mostly in bad shape.  not sure of all the years they where made but they would be a sweet truck to work on! good luck finding one. :beerchug:

There were a couple of different shops that did the conversions, trekker was the most prevalant of all.  They can still be found but like brainless said they will probobly be in bad shap.

Pretty sure the trekker was a winnebego conversion or something like that..

So you guys think it was an after market conversion.... could you get a clean truck and convert it? the one i saw the cab and bed had been joined together. This would be a great kit for an 80's truck. "Make lots of Money" look how popular the 85 4Runner is....

Its not that hard to convert at all.  I did it just never have finished it yet.  I just cut the back of the cab out on my 81 and put a seat in it.  There are pics in the projects section under $300

Ok, The Trekker! looks like a bunch were made in 1992, Winnabago help create it... this going to be cool project. Now if I can just find one.

They are cool rigs..Finding a trekker will take some time but you will pay out the a$$ for a clean one..They are sweet rigs though..

I have a Trekker. I have taken the conversion off my rig. I have all the pieces including a back window that ain't cracked. I don't have pic's right now but I do have some with the shell off!!

the  trekker was the mother of the 4runner i understand it was a factory toyota/winnebago product sold at the dealer

Hilux is the name for the pre-tacoma p/u trucks.
Wolverines were another conversion kit similiar to the trekker conversion.
The 4-Runner was sold elsewhere (not US) as the Hi-Lux Surf Edition.
