82 22r hop ups
« on: Feb 03, 2007, 06:45:40 PM »
K i have an 82 with a recently rebuilt engine and trans. I have 32 inch tires w stock gears. This thing is gutless, which i dont think they have much power to begin with but geez.... i know i need gears but i dont want to spend that much money on this thing, i just drive it during the week. I also go down south sometimes so i have to climb the big hills to get out of the valley and i always have my 400lb quad in the back. It has a header and a magnaflow exhaust. What would be the best bet to get a lil more power. I would like to do maybe a carb and air cleaner set up or something. What do you guys have the best experience with? Or should i go with like 31's or even smaller. Thanks

a cam, but that means removing the head bolts and usually redoing the head gasket.....

hate to say it, but the carb, and intake mod aren't going to really do much.....

gears are the only thing you can do to it that will give it some power back....

ok then well ill look into it. i would like to just have it run like stock. My experience with all my toys, not just trucks is ifyou leave them stock they just run. i like the bigger tires but i would like it to  just not struggle as bad. My dad was following me when we went to cal city in his f250 and he called me and told me to slow down, we were doin 80. (need spedo cable 8-)) But a few times goin up the hill i had to go down to 3rd but just for a min. how much power and torque do you think im loosing?

if  you like it  low,  and dont WANT  huge tires,  just  get some 4.88's  you be fine,  or  just keep  31's

i have 32's myself

4.88s and 31-33's will put you in a stock-like powerband...32s are perfect!   u are losing alot of power with the stock gears
