auto to manual
« on: Jan 13, 2007, 08:57:26 PM »
i was wondering if anyone has swapped an auto trans off an put a manual on? and what fabing needs to be done? and any tips to make it go together smoothly.
i've done some research. i have a 85 Toyota Pu ext.cab.(think it has a A340F). i don't want to go through the trouble and put in a W56 but rather a R151.
so i know i will need a new crossmember, master+slave, lines, petal assembly(told it's easier than adding a petal), 23 spline clutch kit(pressure plate, clutch, throw out B., pilot B.), machined fly wheel. anything else.
i will have to cut a larger hole, right?

I did it on my 87 runner it's not that bad, just have to jump a wire to cancel the park switch.

do you have any pictures of this.
biggest reason for the swap is gas milage, but that lower gear is way cool.

your also going to need new driveshafts... or at least lengthen the rear and shorten the front... the auto tranny is at least 6in longer than the manual..

I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

anything else. and can anyone give me a total cost. i know the r151 should cost around 1000, an w56 around 200, those are with t-cases. at a pick and pull what should the driveshafts cost, the hydraulics, petal assembly.
